چکیده

In this paper, lean buffering (i.e., the smallest level of buffering necessary and sufficient to ensure the desired production rate of a manufacturing system) is analyzed for the case of serial lines with machines having Weibull, gamma, and log-normal distributions of upand downtime. The results obtained show that: (1) the lean level of buffering is not very sensitive to the type of upand downtime distributions and dependsmainly on their coefficients of variation,CVup andCVdown; (2) the lean level of buffering is more sensitive to CVdown than to CVup but the difference in sensitivities is not too large (typically, within 20%). Based on these observations, an empirical law for calculating the lean level of buffering as a function of machine efficiency, line efficiency, the number of machines in the system, and CVup and CVdown is introduced. It leads to a reduction of lean buffering by a factor of up to 4, as compared with that calculated using the exponential assumption. It is conjectured that this empirical law holds for any unimodal distribution of upand downtime, provided that CVup and CVdown are less than 1.

Performance evaluation of the croissant production line with reparable machines

In this study, the analytical probability models for an automated serial production system, bufferless that consists of n-machines in series with common transfer mechanism and control system was developed. Both time to failure and time to repair a failure are assumed to follow exponential distribution. Applying those models, the effect of system parameters on system performance in actu...

بهینه سازی نرخ تولید از طریق تعیین اندازه بهینه موجودی های بافر با استفاده از رویکرد تلفیقی متدولوژی سطح پاسخ و الگوریتم ژنتیک

This paper presents a methodology to optimize production rate and focuses on an optimal buffer storage sizing for this purpose. Buffer storages are intermediate semi complete components which their capacity is an important factor in design of production lines and impact on the production line. This methodology with eliminating of some simpler assumptions, assumes that the arrival rate of parts ...

Adaptive policy of buffer allocation and preventive maintenance actions in unreliable production lines

The buffer allocation problem is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem, and it is an important design problem in manufacturing systems. The research proposed in this paper concerns a product line consisting of n unreliable machines with n − 1 buffers and a preventive maintenance policy. The focus of the research is to obtain a better trade-off between the buffer level ...

Modeling Exponential Reliable Production Lines using Kronecker Descriptors

This paper presents a solution procedure for production lines, based on a Markovian formulation with a Kronecker structured representation (sum of tensor products). Production lines with phase-type distributions for the processing and machine repair times and Erlang distribution times to failures of multiple machines in parallel at each workstation are traditionally modeled as Markovian continu...

Experimental and Simulation Constructing of Phase Diagram and Quality Lines for a Lean Gas Condensate Reservoir Fluid

Constructing phase diagram and its subsequent quality lines for lean gas condensate reservoirs is always crucial and challenging topic in reservoir fluid studies. Due to small amounts of liquid drop-outs in lean gas condensates at reservoir conditions, full experimental tracking of phase diagram and its relevant quality lines is almost impossible for lean gas condensates. On the other hand, ...
